Acceptable in the 80's- But Now?

The 80's and 90's are VERY well known for their fashion, wether that be good or bad. It was an extremely experimental time, birthing some trends we had never seen before. Staples of the era were bright colored makeup (or- bright colored everything), BIG hair, faux fur, and shoulder pads. In the 90's, chokers, plaid, punk, and preppy were in.

A lot of these might seem like fashion cardinal sins in 2018, but the current era is really just a big conglomerate of trends of the past. So, how can we take these bold fashion faux pas and turn them into something great? Here's the comeback story of the 80's and 90's trends. The 90's signature style is probably the most prominent throwback going on in today's culture. Dressing like a character from Clueless is really, like, in right now. Even Target's new brand, Wild Fable is making the entire women's department look like Cher's favorite store in the mall. Plaid, scrunchies, fanny packs, and tattoo chokers are found everywhere in mainstream fashion right now. We've taken the wild 90's style and tamed it- just a little bit.

As for the 80's that's a bit of a bigger fish to fry. The 1980's really are known as the ugliest decade to date. That doesn't mean you can't rock it now, though! To tame this style- you might want to take it down a FEW notches from the styles they were rocking then (not that there was anything wrong with them, they were acceptable at the time!) Windbreakers, shoulder pads, and acid washed denim are super great in moderation. Shoulder pads are probably one of the largest staples of the time, and they're being seen everywhere again, especially in high-end and designer brands (and they should know what's cool, right?) It's now seen as super chic and androgynous. Athleisure and streetwear are also one of the current biggest trends, and you know you've seen guys walking around in matching Adidas windbreaker sets. Before hating on a certain era or style, break down the statements pieces and style them into your own current wardrobe. You might just like how it looks!
